lodge

Welcome to
Pinetree lodge

The original home of Explore the North and husky life

Welcome to Pinetree Lodge, our warm and personal lodge in the tiny village of Särkimukka, 150 km north of the Arctic Circle. Five kilometres beyond the public road, the lodge sits beside Lake Saarijärvi, surrounded by deep forest and home to around 200 huskies. Here, there are more dogs than people, and life naturally follows the rhythm of the North.

This is where the Explore the North story began, with a few sled dogs, a love for the land and a wish to share everyday life in Swedish Lapland with others. Over the years, that simple beginning has grown into a welcoming lodge with a genuine family atmosphere, where the dogs, the forest, the lake and the people are all part of the experience.
Spend your days out on husky safaris, forest trails and Northern Lights adventures, then return to the sauna by the lake, a dinner made with local ingredients and a relaxed evening in the Brown Bear Bar.
Full of character and rooted in the life of the North, Pinetree Lodge brings together the best of Swedish Lapland and the warm hospitality that has been part of our story from the very beginning.

Cabins

Your own cozy hideaway

Three comfortable cabins for 2–4 guests, each with a private double bedroom, a fold-out bed in the living area, a private bathroom and an open fireplace. A warm and peaceful place to return to after a day outdoors.

Arctic Living Apartments

Our six Arctic Living Apartments have two private double bedrooms, a sofa bed, an open kitchen and a living room with fireplace. Each apartment also has a private bathroom, sauna and its own terrace facing Lake Saarijärvi.

Restaurant & Lounge

A taste of Lapland

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served in the main lodge, with locally sourced ingredients at the heart of the menu. Discover the flavours of Lapland through modern takes on traditional Swedish dishes, including reindeer and moose.

Brown Bear Bar

A cozy favourite after a day outside

Settle into the Brown Bear Bar with a locally brewed beer, a cloudberry cocktail or something else from the bar. And when karaoke night comes around, the microphone is ready.

Sauna & Relax

Warm up by the lake

Choose between the electric sauna in the main lodge and the traditional sauna beside Lake Saarijärvi. Add a soak in the jacuzzi and, with a little luck, the Northern Lights may appear above you.

Aurora Hideaways

A quiet night under the Arctic sky

Tucked into a forest clearing around a ten-minute walk from the lodge, our Aurora Hideaways offer a simple and peaceful overnight stay away from the main buildings. Settle in, look up and keep an eye on the sky for the Northern Lights.

Wilderness Cabin

A traditional night in the forest

Step into a simpler way of staying in Lapland in our traditional fishing and hunting cabin. There is no electricity or running water, the cabin is warmed by the fireplace and a wood-fired sauna waits for you after a day on the trail.

Wooden "Kåta"

Dinner on an island in Lake Saarijärvi

Beautifully located on an island in the lake, our wooden kåta hosts weekly pizza evenings during summer and can also be booked for private meals for up to 30 guests.

Husky Kennel

Meet the heart of Pinetree Lodge

Around 200 huskies live at Pinetree Lodge, making the kennel a big part of everyday life here. Stop by to meet the dogs, get to know their personalities and meet your team before heading out together on the trail.
